A cold day in Edmonton. I didn't get out and knew I wasn't going to later in the day so I took this looking towards downtown.

Another grey day. It seems we have only had sun for short periods and usually when I have to be inside at work.

We were in the car this afternoon and it was looking like there would be no light at all when we got to our destination. So I pulled the camera out to get some shots of the trees blurring in the foreground with the focus on the background. So little light and everything just seems grey.

We have had a warm spell and it has been above freezing during the day. Today I found this piece of ice that had fallen off our garage. From a distance it looked like a large icicle but the garage did not have any icicles on it. When I got up close I found it was actually very thin, maybe a quarter of an inch, and it was about 2 inches wide and maybe 16 to 24 inches long. When it slid off the garage it landed in the snow standing straight up.

I moved it in to the sun and got a few shots. Shortly after it collapsed.

I walked by this playground today. The equipment was all replaced last fall so it is still bright and shiny.

I had this idea after shooting the images of my son jumping off the garage into the snow. I liked the flash on the snow in the air so I thought I would try to capture him running through a cloud of snow. This didn't come out quite like I had envisioned, but I was attempting to do it alone.

No one else was around so I set the camera on a tripod with the timer set. I had to push the shutter release, run over and grab a shovel, wait for what I thought was the right time, throw the snow in the air, drop the shovel, and then run through the falling snow as the flash fired.

It took a number of tries to get this. The snow isn't as thick as I wanted but it is the idea. I may have to try again when I have some helpers.

The snow keeps piling up.

Since we have so much snow I thought it would be fun to build an igloo. I started a few days ago by piling up a lot of snow and stomping it down with snowshoes. I needed to get it packed hard enough to cut blocks. I started building yesterday and finished today. I wasn't very fast and it is a little lumpy, but it works and is actually quite large inside.

I was out for a couple of hours and set up to take this shot when I got back. It had snowed another inch or so, so it gave it a softer look. I put a 500 watt halogen work light inside to light it up.

These sloped glass walls are good to catch and hold the snow. I was driving by earlier and liked the way they looked so decided to go back as it was getting dark so I could get the lights inside.

Abduction?

After doing the shots of my son jumping off the garage into the snow yesterday I was thinking it would look better without the houses in the background. And I wanted to emphasize the height. So I got him jumping again this evening.

I was drawn to this image because it seemed like he was being drawn up into the air rather than falling to the ground.
