Ice Revisited

The ice on our pond had melted and then refroze during the last few days of cold weather. But it was forecast to warm up and start raining by the end of the day. So I rushed out at lunch to try some more shots. The ice was not thick enough to hold my weight so I only managed to get a few shots from the edge.

More Ice

It was not as cold today so the ice has been melting. It was a little harder to get some of the shots I wanted since I was concerned about breaking through the ice. It isn't very deep but I still didn't want to get wet, slide under a section of ice, or dunk my camera.

This shot was done with two different flashlights shining on the leaves under the ice near the edge of the pond.

Bubbles in the Ice

I was experimenting taking photos of bubbles in some pond ice after sunset using a flashlight. I love the effect with the light on the bottom of the pond backlighting the bubbles.

Elk Falls

Went on a hike today along the Campbell River up to Elk Falls. The water level has been high recently due to all the rain so the water was really amazing moving over the falls. In the top photo you can get an idea of the size of the falls by looking at the people in the lower left of the image.

Experimenting

I recently read some tips and tricks for shooting photos with an iPhone camera. It lead me to trying some shots with my iPod that I placed in a ZipLock bag. It gives the image a soft effect. Need to experiment a little more.

Took a day trip to Hornby Island yesterday with some camera club members. Amazing rock formations on the beaches.

Camelopardalids meteor shower

I just heard about this meteor shower last night so I stayed up to try getting some photos of it. Didn't see a single meteor. Sounds like that was the case for a lot of people.

I took a number of 5 minute exposures and this one that is about 15 minutes. Didn't see any meteor trails but you can see the stars rotating around the north star.
