It was like it was snowing today with all the cottonwood seeds and fluff coming down. It built up a lot along the edge of this path drowning out these small flowers.

Day 145 - Snowbirds #5

I think today was the last practice day this year.

Each time I watch the Snowbirds I'm amazed at how they can stay in such a tight formation, especially while doing loops. I wanted to include this shot showing the bottoms of the jets. They do loops with 9 jets in formation, but today with where I was standing and the challenge of getting something close enough and in focus, this is the one I chose.

While my camera has been in for repair I have been using an older camera and I was finding the autofocus was not working well for me. If it didn't lock in on the jets right away, which was most of the time, it would try to focus in and out and by then they were gone. So I have been using manual focus, which has been good practice, and it has worked better for me. Still some that are not sharp, but I am getting enough that are.

Day 141 - 1 Bald Eagle, 6 Snowbirds

I went to get some shots of the Snowbirds practicing today and caught this bald eagle with a front row seat. It is not the sharpest image and I could have had a greater depth of field to get the Snowbirds more in focus, but I didn't have a lot of time to make adjustments.

Day 140 - Fish Count

I helped a neighbour this morning doing a fish count, which I have never done before but was quite interesting. The screens are set up across the stream to channel the fish into the black tube shown here that flows into the screened box on the bottom right of the photo. The fish are removed while counting and released back downstream. I don't know how many days the count goes for, but after it is done all this is removed and when it is time the salmon can swim back upstream to spawn. Today we saw coho smelt and fry, sculpin, crayfish, and a lamprey.

Day 139 - Evening Bike Ride

I took this this evening while out riding. I liked the way the sun was shining through the trees. Just over the rise and behind these trees is a large barn and a field which extends off to both sides. I have posted one or two images looking across the fields towards the Comox Glacier.

I went out this morning to try getting more shots of the Snowbirds practicing but they did not fly. So I walked the beach and took shots of other things that caught my eye; like this shell left on the sand as the tide went out.

Day 130 - Canadian Forces Snowbirds

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds aerobatics team is in Comox, BC every year around this time for about 3 weeks of practice. There were only 6 planes out this afternoon, but when I zoomed in on this shot it looks like you can see 10 helmets. I think they usually perform with 9 planes, so maybe later this week or next we will see all 9 planes.

I only took this shot today. I had a bit of time while out on my bike between appointments so I rode down by the estuary. It seemed a little drab in colour so I converted to B&W and I thought it was better this way.

Day 124 - Perseverance Creek

This is on a trail called Hai Gai beside Perseverance Creek and is quite a run for the mountain bikers. This shot does not show a steep hill or any of the other logs they ride down, but I liked the way it came out.
