Today I took a few different flowers to the lake to experiment with the underwater reflection. Most of them were not very good. This was the one I decided to post, but I have mixed feelings about my hand being in the image and whether it is too distracting or not.

Experimenting some more underwater to get an interesting abstract. The green is from a backlit maple tree that was right over the water, the blue sky, and I'm not sure about the rest but maybe the rocks reflected underwater and/or the darker trees around the maple.

I sat and watched the hummingbirds again today. I liked this shot because you can see the twisting of the wings.

I liked the way this fir needle was on the surface of the water causing the light distortion and shadow to wrap around.

Day 200 - Bubble Vortex

This was done by shooting toward my foot as I lifted a flipper above the surface and then brought it down quickly. You can just make out the end of a flipper at the bottom of the photo. A bit of trial and error since I couldn't really see what I was doing.

I was out for a bike ride and spotted this old roller skate on top of a berm.

Another Anna's Hummingbird today, I think this one is a female. (I think yesterday's shot was of a young male.)

We have a crocosmia beside a table outside that the hummingbirds love. They don't seem too concerned with us being there within arms reach, as long as we don't move too quickly. It's amazing to have them fly up within a couple of feet to check us out. I sat with my camera for a while today and had this one come within arms reach, almost too close to focus on.

Day 196 - River Rock

I went for a hike today up this river bed, about 3 km, and most of it was easy walking on the exposed rock/sediment layer. I did not go in the water today, but I did try a few shots in some of the pools and had the camera lens fog up, so I stuck with taking above water shots.

I hope you aren't getting too tired of all the underwater shots. I'm still really enjoying the experimenting with the light, patterns, and different subject matter.

I tried a number of different shots with a swimmer and the logs and stumps underwater so it was hard today to choose just one. I ended up with this one because I thought there were some interesting elements.

I went to a smaller lake today and it was a very different feel under water, maybe it is more organic matter? I liked the way the water lilies looked from underneath, but it was not my favourite place to swim.

I was laying down (with a mask and snorkel) in about a foot of water to take this shot. You can see the surface of the water is curving up and down to match the rocks, but it does show up much better when it is in motion.

Day 189 - Creek Bed

We hiked up along this creek and the lower section was mostly dried up. The trail ended around the spot where this photo was taken and we continued up this section on the creek bed.

It was clouding over when I got to the lake today, but I had a brief moment when the sun broke through.

I am going to carry on with the underwater theme because I'm enjoying it and during this hot weather it is nice to get wet. Although this particular shot was taken after swimming and heading back to the car when I spotted some leaves in a shallow side channel. So this is only in 2 or 3 inches of water.

Day 186 - Water Strider Shadows

This was shot from underwater, but in just a few inches of water in a mostly dried up creek bed.

Day 185 - Underwater Abstract #2

I thought this had a bit of a moody sky feel. It is shot underwater just before where the water rushes between some rocks over a small waterfall. The brighter spot is the reflection of a light coloured rock on the bottom surface of the water. It is shot angled up towards the surface from just a few inches underwater. You can see little streaks of white which are bubbles rushing by.

Today's swim was in a river. This shot is looking up from beside a stone where the water is flowing quickly, which causes the distortions. Colours are from the sky, trees, and reflections of stones under the water.

Day 183 - Underwater #4

At the lake again, but it has been busy for the July 1st holiday and the water was murkier today. This was not the largest tree or stump, but the image was one of the clearer ones.

I went swimming in the lake again today and found this leaf floating with the tip just touching the surface of the water.
