Day 53 - Re-emerging

These little yellow crocus had started to emerge and then we got a dump of snow. The weather stayed cold and the snow hung on for a while, but now it is melting quickly and the flowers are re-emerging.

A 4 image pano of sunrise over the estuary. I found it is a hard time of day to do a panorama as my photo editing software failed on a number of different sets because it couldn't line them up.

Not surprising with the weather recently, but this canoe doesn't look like it has been used for a while. Along with the snow there was a buildup of water in the bottom.

Went for a snowshoe today on a beautiful, sunny, and warmer day.

Day 47 - Retaining Wall

This is a retaining wall on the Courtenay River near the estuary, so you can see the tide lines. It is on an old mill site that is being purchased and put back to nature. Once all the concrete is gone and the plantings start to take hold this retaining wall will be removed.

Went to Goose Spit today during a snowfall, and with the wind it was hard to get a photo without snowflakes hitting the front of the lens and melting. But it was nice to be by the water in these conditions.

Colder temperatures and some new snow. The flowers that had already started to come up are probably not too happy, but we can't complain, other parts of the country still have a lot of winter left.

Yesterday I had tried some shots like this but was not happy with any of them as there were baseboards and other things, faint, but noticeable in the background. So I had wanted to try again and this time put up a black background. I am happier with the results.

Another shot of the Comox Glacier from roughly the same direction as yesterday, but from further away and across the estuary instead of across a farm field.

This is one of my favourite views in our area; a great view of the Comox Glacier. The name was officially adopted in 1939, but it is known by the K'ómoks First Nation as K'one-is (Queneesh). It represents a whale that was stranded up on the mountain in an origin story.

Went for a walk on Miracle Beach today and saw this piece of driftwood/very big tree. The angle was not great because the roots blend into the background, but if you zoom in a bit you can see my wife ducking under some of the roots and it gives you an idea how big it is.

I had not taken any photos today so decided to try the in-camera HDR setting before the daylight was completely gone. I wasn't really happy with any of them, but kept this one to have something to post today.

Day 34 - Tree

I'm quite sure this is a gary oak tree and it is in Pipers Lagoon Park in Nanaimo. I was close under this tree and with my wide angle lens I couldn't get the whole tree so I decided to do a panorama and stitch the images together. There is a person on the bottom right but since it is a wide angle shot it is still hard to get the true sense of the size of the tree.
