I'm finding it a challenge to get a really good clear shot of a bird. This one is not really sharp, but I think it was the best one today, so this is my daily post.
I think these are green-winged teal, but if I got it wrong please let me know. I was shooting through a bush which caused some blurriness, but when I shifted to try to get a better line a twig snapped under my foot and they were instantly off.
I went out late in the day again and spotted this red-breasted sapsucker. It did not seem to be bothered by my presence and at one point a second flew in and landed close to the first. I only got a couple of shots of the two of them before one went around the back of the tree and then flew off. One stayed around for quite a while allowing me to take a lot of shots, be even so I found it hard to get a nice clear image.
Update: This is a female red-winged blackbird, which I had thought was a song sparrow and had labeled as such. I’m not a birder and I had thought this was a sparrow, but I happened to see a camera ad this morning showing a female red-winged blackbird and recognized it right away as this bird photo I took yesterday.
I think this is a female Anna's Hummingbird. I was sitting under an ornamental cherry tree waiting for something/anything to appear to take my daily shot and this little hummingbird came along and after flitting from blossom to blossom perched right above me. It gave me lots of opportunity to take it's portrait and remained only 5 or 6 feet away even as I shifted around to take my shots. I got a few of it flying around the blossoms but I liked this one the most.
More star light trails, this time from my backyard and I started before it was really dark. This is an hour long exposure and you can see I didn't quite get the north star. I'm finding it hard because the lens is not quite wide enough and I can't see enough on the screen to aim, so it is a bit of guessing.
I went up the mountain to darker skies and thought it might be possible to see the milky way, but it was still too faint. I took this long exposure in the parking lot and you can see a lot more stars than yesterday's image. It also looks like there might be a couple of meteorite trails in there.
I went to the lake thinking I would try to get a shot with the milky way showing but this ended up not being a good location and still a bit early in the evening. I did like this image though with some stars reflected in the water.
Best to view with a black background by clicking on the image.
This is a 15 minute exposure. I was experimenting with the light trails feature in camera aimed at the north star, and in that time you can see the light trails of 4 planes that went over.
Best seen by clicking on it and viewing with black background.
A pair of Bushtits have been busy making this nest. I read that they make their nests from moss, spider webs, and grasses. It was challenging trying to get a good shot of it among the tangle of branches, but I managed to get this image of one coming out of the nest.
I took this a couple of days ago while snowshoeing up on the mountain. I don't know if it is actually a moss or a lichen, or if it is only found on trees at higher elevations.
I went out late in the day thinking I would try to do some wildlife photography. Not a good idea to do last minute, I didn't see anything close enough. So I took this just before the sun went behind a cloud close to sunset.
The mountains in the background are on the mainland across the Strait of Georgia. This bay is quite shallow and it was a few hours before low tide. Still, it was a bit of a walk from the high tide line on the beach to the edge of the water, and you can see the sandbars that are exposed now in front of and behind the kiteboarder.
This is as I found it on the beach. What do you see? At first I was thinking it looked a bit like a seahorse, but the more I look I see a large stinging insect or mosquito.
